Auditions

Charleston County School District (CCSD) is pleased to offer FREE district level orchestra programs to CCSD strings students.  Prospective students must be recommended by a strings teacher, pass an audition, and participate in the strings orchestra program at their school if one is offered.  The District Orchestras are designed to be a supplemental experience in addition to a primary source of instruction such as school orchestra or a private teacher.  For students that attend a school with no orchestra program, private lessons are required.  Audition requirements for each level are posted via the ORCHESTRAS page.

The goal of the district orchestras is to provide a challenging orchestral experience for gifted CCSD string students beyond that normally provided by the general school program in order to achieve their potential.  These orchestras allow students to perform with gifted and talented students from all areas of Charleston County, work closely with conductors, study advanced orchestra literature, and achieve higher performance capabilities.  District orchestras operate on a semesterly basis and hold auditions and performances each semester.

Students auditioning for district orchestras must understand that they are making a commitment to the orchestra.  Participating in these orchestras is a privilege and every member is expected to put forth their best efforts.  This includes punctuality, practice, participation, and performance.  District orchestras hold rehearsals once a week on Monday nights from 6:30pm to 8pm at the School of the Arts.  Students must attend all rehearsals and performances and have no more than 3 absences a semester.  More than three absences may result in removal from the orchestra.
